I am considering traveling to the Caribbean for a sun-filled vacation. Which island/country would you recommend? I am not interested in traveling to Cuba as I have already been there. Where would you say has the best beaches? There is a famous island where you can see airplanes landing right at the beach! That seems like a cool place and an option. Does anyone know where this beach is?
That’s in St. Marteen the dutch side, that’s a bit too close to comfort for me lol. Honestly, all the beaches will be incredible in the caribbean I would just say it depends on your budget. St Marteen and islands like that will be more but if you’re looking for nice beaches but more on the budget friendly resort side like Jamaica or Dominican Republic
I am from Jamaica. So 100% you must visit , I promise you wont regret it. I live about 1 hr from Montego Bay one of the most popular places to visit, there is so much fun things to do. Doctors Cove Beach and Harmony Beach, are two of the best beaches in Montego Bay. For some real authentic Jamaican food visit Pelican Grill and the famous Margaritaville you can try jerk chicken and drink some Jamaican rum and meet some locals. if you are looking to go outside of Montego Bay. Negril is just 1hr 30mins away. Seven Mile Beach in Negril is absolutely beautiful. White sandy beach, crystal clear water, its literally a dream. if you want to try some great food while your there, visit Ricks Cafe very popular spot. At sunset they have cliff divers do a whole performance and jump off a cliff into the water. People come from all over just to see them dive its really cool to watch.
And then their is Ocho Rios its about 2 hours from Montego Bay. you must visit the world famous Duns River falls. its basically a 960 ft water fall that flows right into the ocean its the coolest thing ever. if your brave enough you can climb all the way to top. Not many people have made it to the top its very slippery. Ive never made it to the top lol its funny to see people falling and sliding all the way back to the bottom. But if you do make it all the way you, get a prize and who doesn’t love prizes. Jamaica all around is great time for sure ive never heard anyone come back and say they had a bad experience.
I’ve been to quite a few Caribbean islands and some of my favourites are Barbados, Dominican Republic, and St. Lucia! Honestly you can’t go wrong with any of the beaches in the Caribbean.
This is always a tough question to answer, because there is ‘no one size fits all’.
I’ve visited a number of Caribbean islands, with plenty more to add as ‘Ports of Call’, but (for me) it’s not all about the beaches.
Some islands are lush, with rainforests and mountain trails, while others have desert climates and coral beaches.
The right Caribbean island for you will depend on your personal preferences and travel style.
Do some research and perhaps consider some other factors to help narrow down your options for your next sun-filled vacation.
Activities
What do you want to do on your trip?
If you’re looking for adventure, consider islands like Puerto Rico, Jamaica, or the Dominican Republic; which offer everything from hiking and zip lining to surfing and snorkelling.
If you want a more laid-back experience, try the smaller islands of the Bahamas, St. Kitts, or Barbados; which are known for their beautiful beaches and relaxed atmosphere.
Budget
Caribbean islands can vary widely in price, with some islands catering to luxury travellers and others offering more budget-friendly options.
If you’re looking to save money, consider destinations like the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, or the Bahamas, which offer a range of accommodations and activities at a variety of price points.
Culture
Each Caribbean island has its own unique culture and history, so consider what kind of experience you want.
For example, if you’re interested in exploring colonial architecture and historic sites, you might enjoy Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands.
If you’re more interested in the local music and cuisine, check out islands like Jamaica or Trinidad & Tobago; I thoroughly enjoyed them both.
Easy to Reach
How easy is it to get to the island?
Some islands, like Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, have major airports with direct flights from many U.S. cities.
Other islands may require multiple flights or ferry rides to reach, which can add time and expense to your trip.
Weather
The Caribbean is known for its sunny, warm weather, but it can vary depending on the season and location.
Consider when you’re planning to travel and what kind of weather you prefer.
Some islands may be more prone to hurricanes during certain times of the year, while others may be too hot and humid for some travellers.
If It’s Really All About the Beaches
If your main priority is the absolute best beaches, Turks and Caicos (Grace Bay Beach) is hard to beat; often ranked among the best in the world, with powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters..
The area is also less crowded compared to some other islands.
All Inclusive Resorts
Many all-inclusive resorts are located in The Caribbean, not just because of the sun and sea but because the operational costs are cheaper; and so is the rum.
Wherever you chose to lay down your towel, remember to tell us all about it on your return.
