I’m travelling to Nice in October, it’s my first time in the south of france. I’ll be there for 7 days and I’m staying very centrally (right on Place Massena!). I know there will be a lot of great places to explore in Nice (recommendations welcome!) but I also want to explore some other places nearby by public transport. I love the beach, but the water might be a bit cold at that time, but I’m still interested in soaking up the coastal vibes and quaint French towns or villages. Can anyone recommend some great days trips to fill 2 or 3 days?

A couple of suggestions from me:
- Monaco: I went in style and took a ferry to Morocco to arrive in the harbour (secondary harbour, not the main one, but still super cool seeing the city on the cliffs from the sea), and got the train back. The coastal train journey is beautiful!
- You can explore the harbour, the Casino square (I even saw the princess of Monaco when i was there by chance!) and the castle - great for a day trip.
- Tende - Martime Alps: You can get the Train des Merveilles from Nice to the beautiful Maritime Alps. The train journey is famous for a corkscrew through the mountains and stunning scenery following the river valley and mountain range.
- There are serval villages you can stop at, I opted for Tende, which had a very unique medieval look and it was super quiet wandering the streets there. I also did a short hike in the mountains and went to the museum which was very good.
Nice itself was beautiful, a great place to walk around, and highly recommend going up Castle Hill for the views and also checking out the museums and art galleries (Musee Matisse was my favourite!)
