What are the must-see places in Argentina? Is it safe to travel solo in Argentina, or better with a group? Any tips for first-time travellers?

Hi @OceanicSolotravelers

There are many beautiful places to visit in Argentina! If this is your first time traveling, I recommend the following places:

Buenos Aires: It’s the capital, there you have everything that a big city can offer you, from touring the different neighborhoods such as Recoleta, La Boca, San Telmo, Puerto Madero, Palermo among others, where you can enjoy their culture, gastronomy, and theaters. And if you like sports, you can visit different futbol stadiums! Football is very much part of the culture there.

Cataratas del Iguazú (waterfalls): It is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and it’s an incredible place that you cannot miss. There are 275 waterfalls of which the most famous is La garganta del Diablo.

Mendoza: famous for its vineyards, mountain landscapes, and outdoor adventures. Located at the foot of the Andes Mountains, it combines nature and gastronomy. If you’re a wine lover, this is a place you must visit!

Patagonia: it is one of the most stunning regions in the country. Famous for its landscapes of mountains, lakes, glaciers, and forests, it offers a unique connection with nature and adventure. Places to visit include Bariloche, El Calafate, El Chaltén, Ushuaia (home to the Perito Moreno Glacier) and Puerto Madryn.

Regarding safety, you should be cautious at all times, especially in Buenos aires. If you are a female travelling solo, I 100% recommend a group tour - but if you are travelling with friends/family, then you are good!

One tip I can give you is: Argentina is huge, make sure to plan accordingly and choose one or two regions max to explore, unless you have more than one month to travel around :slight_smile:

@micatravels has some great recommendations!

Argentina is huge, so it really depends on how long you have! I spent 2 months traveling there (including 3 weeks in Buenos Aires which I loved and recommend. Especially San Telmo which has so much music and dance!).

My top 3 places that will blow your mind:

Perito Moreno Glacier (Patagonia) - one of the only glaciers in the world thats still expanding. If you stay and watch long enough you will no doubt see huge chunks or sheets (20 stories high!) of ice crack off and splash into the water below. The sound is immense, and the scene is dramatic - unforgettable.

Cerro Torre (Patagonia) - You can hike here from El Chalten on a 20km round trip. It’s just a stunning region, you feel like you’re somewhere secret, somewhere wild. It’s stunning! There is a shorter hike from the town (6km) to get a view of it - I wish i could sit and look at this view everyday!

Iguazu Falls - It’s at the border of 3 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay) - and often it is recommended to see both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides for different angles. It is the largest waterfall system in the world, and incredibly impressive. There is perpetual mist and constant rainbows that form within it. You will get soaked through and blown away by the sights and sounds, as well as the beautiful rainforest surrounding the site. You really need a full day on each side ideally as there are so many different spots to see and walks to go on - I highly recommend you don’t miss this!

Bariloche was also very cool, like an alpine European style town. You can cycle round the lake there and they have St Bernard dogs!

Patagonia and Iguazu are in complete opposite directions, from each other, but if you have the time I highly recommend both.

This tour goes to all these spots: Adventures in Patagonia + Iguazu Extension by Explore! with 19 Tour Reviews (Code: PAI) - TourRadar - or you could look at 2 different tours. I travelled with my partner, I’m not sure how I would have felt alone as a solo female and definitely recommend a tour, especially if you want to hike!
