We’re thinking of meeting up with family in Italy next summer and I’ve heard such amazing things about Sardinia. We’re thinking of 1-2 weeks, preferably somewhere close to the beach but also near nice cafes and authentic trattorias. We’re flexible with the time if that’s a significant factor in terms of weather and costs. Thanks in advancee! ![]()
@wander_tara - As Sardinia is an island, the second-largest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily, it sometimes seems like the whole place is a beach.
The last time I visited Sardinia, I hitch-hiked around the island; a great way to meet the locals and get insider tips.
As you’re thinking of meeting up with family, hiring a car would be advisable and maybe base yourself in two or three places during the two weeks.
Late May to early July would probably be best, to avoid the heat and summer crowds; or September. Certainly not August.
Haven’t been to Sardinia, but it’s on my list as it’s considered one of the blue zone, where people tend to live longest! Sardinia, Italy - Blue Zones
Sardinia’s scenery looks amazing, and the food…do I even need to describe it? ![]()
@wander_tara @DomiTravelini @TravelNotes Sardinia has been on my list for a long time as well, and the more I read about it, the more curious I get. I also watched a Blue Zones documentary that featured Sardinia, and it really made me want to experience the island firsthand — the lifestyle, food, and slower rhythm of life.
I haven’t been yet, but I’m very interested in combining beach time with local cafés and authentic trattorias, exactly like you mentioned. If anyone has specific area recommendations or tips on the best time to go (in terms of weather and crowds), I’d love to hear them too.
