Young parent travels with a toddler in Greece

I’m going to Greece next July with my family of three. I’ve heard it can get very hot during that time of year. My toddler will be one, and I’m a bit worried it might be too hot for him. so I want to know how hot exactly it will be and do hotels in Greece typically have air conditioning? I’ve heard that some places in Europe don’t.

And if any parents have experience travelling with a toddler, I’d love to hear your tips, especially when it comes to moving from one place to another with your little one.

Hi Tanya! I’ve been there in August and let me tell you - it is extremely hot! I would recommend you going off season - Maybe even May-June or Sept-Oct if you can! It will be less crowded, and actually enjoyable to walk around.

I have only been to the Peloponnese region, not the islands so I am not sure about them but if you plan to visit Athens I’d consider moving the dates a bit! And yes, hotels typically have AC!

Hi @tanya

I have not travelled with a toddler to Greece, but will say that it can very hot there in summer. Just like @micatravels suggest I find going to Greece in shoulder season to be the best. I have gone in May and in September and the temperatures were sunny and 28 degrees Celsius.

@CabbageBackpack42 has travelled with toddlers to Greece himself, so maybe he can add his two cents here.

Hi @tanya - I have only been to Greece in mid-late October, and it was still warm then - but the perfect temperature of mid 20’s (celsius), so it could be an ideal time to go! If you are set on going in July, I can tell you:

  • My hotel in Athens and Santorini had A/C
  • My hotel in Kalambaka (North near Meteora), did not have A/C (it was an older, but beautiful hotel)

Im sure you can find hotels that have A/C as long as you check, usually in Europe the modern/chain hotels will have A/C but more traditional/older ones don’t. Hope this helps!
