What is snorkelling/diving in Hurghada like?

Hi all!

I’m looking to travel to Egypt in January from the UK and the cheapest flights go to Hurghada. I would love to snorkel in the Red sea, but most people recommend Marsa Alam or Sharm el Sheikh for the best snorkelling. These don’t look like the easiest places to get to from Hurghada, and I also see Hurghada is more of a lively city with more going on.

So I’m wondering if anyone has done any snorkelling or diving in Hurghada and can tell me how they found it? Was the reef good? What kind of wildlife did you see? And was there a particular place you went in the ocean?

Omg I just came back from my trip to Hurghada! I wanted to do all inclusive resort and relax, but then got curious about diving.

Are you a licensed diver or is it your first time? I heard from many friends before that Egypt is the best place to get your certification! I only did a discovery dive but coming back next year for sure. There were beautiful corals, fish of all kind and sized and we even saw a moray eel (both diving and snorkling) they were not far from the surface.

I fully recommend the experience from Hurghada if you are interested in combining both relaxing at the resort and diving, they picked us up from the resort and did the diving/snorkeling near Orange Bay - stress free. The staff were also really friendly - I could personally recommend my diving instructor.

I have been snorkelling in Egypt just last year! It was my first time snorkelling and it was really breathtaking with many diverse fish and the coral. The supplier we used took us to a spot after which was very remote, and no other boats around us. So I highly recommend if Hurghada is your stop!

Wow - sounds like a great place for your first snorkelling experience @travelling.with.isa! So nice hearing it wasn’t too busy either, glad you enjoyed it so much!
