I’ll be in Sri Lanka in January and want to know if there are Ubers throughout Sri lanka? Or do they have their own version of Uber? Or are taxi’s best to get around cities (I’ll get the train bewteen destinations, I’m going to Kandy, Yala, Ella, Columbo). Also, how easy is it to get a sim card when I arrive?
Haven’t been to Sri Lanka, but I’m planning to visit, so I did some research and found that Uber doesn’t operate in Sri Lanka, but some sites say it’s available in some parts of Colombo. So I’m leaning toward “no,” but there’s an app called PickMe that the locals use, so it’s probably the go to app I’d download before I go.
For SIM cards, I found that you can get one at the airport or at convenience stores, but you need to show your passport to register. I think I’d probably get an eSIM and set it up before I arrive instead. Hope this helps!
Hi there, just visited Sri Lanka a couple of month ago and uber does work but only in Colombo and other bigger cities as @oceansandt mentioned. The other parts of Sri Lanka are too rural. PickMe is the go to app for local transport. And as far as eSims go, either at the airport or utilize apps like Airalo. For Sri Lanka I actually utilized the free eSim that I got when I booked my trip with TourRadar. Got access to it 24 hours before my trip started, I believe, and was super easy to set up via the email I received.
