Turkey in spring or autumn

My wife and I are planning our first trip to Turkey for 2027 and can’t decide between April and October. We’d like it warm enough to enjoy the coast but not so hot that the ruins are hard going. If you’ve been in either season, how did it feel?

October is great for comfortable sightseeing and warm coastal weather, without the intense summer heat.

I’ve been looking at Turkey as well, and I’d personally lean towards late April! Spring or autumn both seem like great choices for Cappadocia, especially if a hot air balloon ride is high on the list. That said, the balloons are VERY weather-dependent, especially with wind, so I’d definitely give Cappadocia at least 2–3 mornings rather than planning the ride for your only day there. Flights can be cancelled when conditions aren’t safe.

I’m most excited about the ruins, architecture and history, and I’d rather be walking around places like Ephesus and Istanbul before the summer heat kicks in. But if warmer coastal weather is a bigger part of the trip, I can definitely see why October would be tempting too. The water may still be warm from the summer then!

@lori, what are you most looking forward to?
