Okay, Cappadocia is apparently the best place in the world to do a hot air balloon. I have a trip booked but I am TERRIFIED of flying. Anyone have experience going on one? Is it as scary as flying and is it worth it?
I haven’t been on one in Turkey, but I took a hot air balloon flight in Australia (but in honesty I love flying, so I wasn’t nervous). It is suprisingly calm and relaxing just gliding above the world and having incredible views. Very different from flying in an economy plane seat, its nostalgic, almost magical, and so peaceful (except when they fir up the burners - but thats pretty cool to see as well!). It can get a little cramped in the basket though, depending on how many are in there.
Cappadocia looks to have some stunning scenery and I bet it would be an amazing place to do one!
My experience was a little different but wanted to hop in here and give my two cents ![]()
I have the same exact fear … I am not a huge fan of heights and going on one also terrified me.
However when I travelled to Berlin, I took a balloon ride, but this was hooked to the ground so we just went up and down. At first I was very unsure but the views were super cool, so I would say overcome your fears and just try it! You for sure will not regret it and especially with those views in Cappadocia!
I have done a hot air balloon in Cappadocia and it is not terrifying at all! It is a very calming experience, it feels like you are not moving at all and you just see all the balloons around you and the valley in the background. When you book your ballon ask which valley they are taking you to, because they are many! To me, Goreme is the best option ![]()
Ive seen a lot of landing videos and that’s what freaks me out, I’m going to do a Turkey tour and is still up in the air
about the hot air balloon experience ![]()
Hi! never been to Turkey, but I have flown in hot air balloons many times (my family and friends are part of a local pro club). While I am a nervous flier on planes, but air balloons have always felt different, a more calming experience - like @micatravels says.
But then again, I haven’t flown in a hot air balloon in years ![]()
Would generally recommend you go with an experienced and seasoned operator, even if it means you pay more, rather than maybe going with the lower-priced option ![]()
