Plans For Easter

Are you planning anything special at Easter or are there special events at Easter that you have witnessed on your travels?

Celebrating Easter

It’s always fascinated me that the date of the birth of Christ at Christmas is defined while the date of his crucifixion varies from year to year.

As they say: Easter Sunday falls on ‘the first Sunday after the Full Moon on, or after, the March Equinox’; or anywhere from March 22 to April 25 (a moveable feast, related to Passover).

Determining the date of Easter by astronomical algorithms can prove rather complex and the Eastern Orthodox churches decided not to follow the same formula.

Colourful Festivals at Easter

While Palm Sunday is the week before Easter Sunday, Good Friday is the day that interests Christian pilgrims around the world.

From Israel and Rome, to the Americas and Asia, it is the last journey of Jesus that is re-enacted.

I used to make a point of photographing festivals on my travels; Holy Week in The Philippines and Easter in Guatemala were both published in The Adventure Travel Magazine (many years ago).

How about you?

It’s still a little cool in Central Europe at the moment.

We were in France at the weekend and noticed that spring is trying to break out in places. Switzerland is still a little shy though.

As for Easter, I’ll probably take off last minute, when I see where the weather is at its best.

I certainly prefer it when Easter is a little later; around April 16th is ideal; which we’ll get in 2028.

Next year, Easter is at the end of March, so I’d better not complain too much.

@TravelNotes Yes! Here in Portugal the Easter celebrations have already started. You can really feel it in the atmosphere—especially with Semana Santa, with traditions, gatherings and little events happening around the city. It’s a beautiful time to be here
