Hey travellers. Doing a week in Scotland in June, Edinburgh as our main base. Everyone and their mother keeps telling me I have to do Isle of Skye but when I map it it’s like 5+ hours each way and we only have 2 days to spare. Is it really THE place or would 2 days in Glencoe or around Pitlochry give us similar vibes with less driving? My partner gets carsick so the winding roads thing is a real concern. We’d be renting a car either way.
The simple answer is No, driving to the Isle of Skye is not essential on a visit to Scotland.
With only two days to spare, a car-sick partner, and Edinburgh as your base, Glencoe or Pitlochry will offer you stunning landscapes with much less unnecessary pressure.
Do you want your two days to feel relaxing or adventurous?
Glencoe, a 2.5 hour dive from Edinburgh, gives you the epic, ‘wild Highlands’ feeling that people associate with Skye, but it’s easier, calmer, and more compact.
Pitlochry is an hour closer.
Explore Pitlochry’s charming town centre and surrounding countryside for scenic walks, lochside views, and outdoor adventures amid stunning Highland landscapes.
The Cairngorms National Park is the UK’s largest national park
I look forward to hearing about your adventures when you get back.
