Is the heat totally unbearable in Key West during august?

Okay I know it’s going to be hot, but how bad is Key West in August actually?
We found a super cheap flight but I’m worried we won’t even be able to walk down Duval street without melting. Do things stay open late so we can just hide by the pool during the day and go out at night?

@alyssa Hi Alyssa, welcome to the community!

It’s definitely hot and very humid. When visiting in June, it already felt intense — at one point it almost felt like my eyes were melting in the heat!

That said, if you found a really cheap flight, it might still be worth it. Many places in Key West stay open late, and a lot of people do exactly what you’re thinking: relax by the pool or beach during the day and then go out in the evening when it’s a bit cooler.

So yes, it’s very hot and humid, but if the price is right and you plan your days around the heat, it can still be manageable.
