My husband and I are booking our first trip to Vietnam for our 40th anniversary this autumn, and the itineraries we like are split - some put Ha Long Bay right at the start, others save it for the end. We’d love it to feel like a high note rather than something we get out of the way early. For anyone who’s done a north-to-south tour, did the order change how the trip flowed?
I did Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) as a ‘stand-alone’ once, then did a longer tour of Vietnam from North to South.
I wouldn’t worry too much about ‘Ha Long Bay’ being the ‘high note’, the whole Vietnamese immersion is an incredible experience.
The Beauty of North to South is you have a more relaxing start, then things get hotter, more humid and more hectic.
What are your exact dates?
Northern Vietnam (including Ha Long Bay) can see mist, rain, or cancellations depending on the month.
