Okay so I’ve been reading conflicting stuff about this for like an hour. Some people swear the Vatican Museums staff match the name on your ticket to your ID, others say they just scan the QR code and you walk through. I booked under my full legal name but the printout just has my first + last. Has anyone actually been turned away for a mismatch? Going in June and really don’t want to lose the €30.
We visited as well and honestly I don’t remember them checking passports at all — they mostly just scanned the QR code and let people through.
From what I’ve seen, as long as the name on the ticket reasonably matches, it’s usually not an issue. I wouldn’t stress too much about it ![]()
I went to the Vatican a few years ago and I don’t remember them being very picky. That said, things might have changed. It’s not a bad idea to have your passport with you. As long as your first and last name on your passport and on the printout match, you shouldn’t have a problem.
I did go a few years ago on a guided tour that skipped the lines. Everything was handled by the tour guide and I don’t remember we had to show passports. There is a very long line to buy tickets so my personal suggestion is to book a guided tour that skips the line.
I used a tour company so I didn’t have to worry about everything just the meeting point.
