I was looking at the path for the 2027 eclipse and northern Morocco is right inside the path of totality.
Tangier and Tetouan should get almost 5 minutes of totality, with Chefchaouen also inside the path.
Honestly, Morocco + a total solar eclipse sounds like a pretty amazing trip
Is anyone here already planning to be in Morocco for it?
And if you are, where are you thinking of watching from .. Tangier, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, or somewhere more rural?
I would LOVE to do this!! Tying a first trip to Morocco in with a total solar eclipse honestly sounds like such a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A lot of the eclipse trips and itineraries I’ve been seeing seem to focus on Tangier, which makes sense, but I can only imagine how crowded it’s going to get. And when you actually compare the totality times, the differences really aren’t that huge:
Tangier: ~4 min 51 sec
Tetouan: ~4 min 53 sec
Chefchaouen: ~4 min 30 sec
Martil: ~4 min 54 sec
So we’re really talking about a difference of seconds in some cases, not minutes. Because of that, I’d probably avoid the absolute busiest viewing spot and look at somewhere like Chefchaouen or Martil instead, then work Tangier into the trip before or after the eclipse.
