We connected a trip to Sri Lanka with a visit to the Maldives. While it was an island hopping trip and I expected the world I learned that there is a reason why there are luxury resorts charging a fortune. If you do the local island hopping you are fully experiencing the local culture which is amazing and you see the truth about the Maldives. Maldives is rich with beautiful beaches but my biggest learning was that due the fact that Maldives is a Muslim-majority country, local islands follow religious and cultural norms. That means swimwear like bikinis is only allowed on designated “bikini beaches. I even got caught by the police and had to leave the beach. Keep that in mind!
