LOTR fans - have you visited NZ?

I’ve heard most of LOTR and the Hobbit has been filmed in NZ! Has anyone visited? Does it live up to the hype? Where exactly those places are?

I have been to NZ and went to Hobbiton! I’m not even a massive LOTR fan, but I’ve watched the movies, and I’ve got to say I loved it there. It feels really magical wandering around there with the little Hobbit holes, you can even go in a couple. It looks just like the movie, and it ends with a drink the Green Dragon. I’ve never been anywhere like it - definitely recommend! If you are travelling up that way, on the North Island, I also recommend visiting Rotorua (geothermal out of this world site) and Mount Maunganui (beaches!)

I think there are loads of other LOTR filming sites in NZ but thats the only one i visited!

I was visiting family in NZ, so I just went along on my own. You need to book tickets in advance though. They drive you there in a bus from the ticket office because you can’t drive directly to the site (so there are no cars around!)

Hey @ck_explorer1000 and @micatravels

I loooove LOTR and would really like to visit NZ to visit a lot of the filming locations. Do you know if there is a tour that includes these filming locations, including Hobbiton? :man_elf:

This one goes to Hobbiton @roann : NZ Intro North by INTRO Travel with 12 Tour Reviews (Code: NNIN) - TourRadar

A lot of the other locations you might come across naturally but don’t really look the same due to all the CGI like you Mount Doom (Mount Ngauruhoe) you can see from Lake Taupo! :man_mage:
