Thinking about renting a car for the Ring Road this summer. How many days did you need and what stops are unmissable?

Iceland’s Ring Road is stunning! You will need about 6-8 days to do the Ring Road in Iceland. I would say the unmissable stops are obviously the cities and towns along the ring road where you would probably stay the night. I would say the most famous stops are some of the amazing waterfalls like Skógafoss, Gullfoss Falls,Seljalandsfoss, and Goðafoss Waterfall. I would also say some of the non misses are the Iceland Plane wreck where Justin Bieber shot a music video, and the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

Interested to know, is it better to rent a car and do a road trip or a guided tour?
I would explore Siglufjordur and the streets and history of this town. Then travel to Grimsey Island in the Arctic Circle.
I actually feel like 8 days is a really good amount of time for the Ring Road! It gives you enough room to actually stop, rest and take everything in instead of feeling like you’re constantly racing to the next place. I’ve been eyeing this 8-day self-guided Ring Road trip on TourRadar actually:

What I like about it is that you’re given a rental car and a planned route, but you’re still driving yourself, so you don’t have the pressure of keeping up with a guide or tour group all day. Could definitely be something worth looking into if you like the idea of having the logistics mostly sorted while still being able to explore at your own pace!
