Wine nerd here. I have 2 free days in Santiago before flying south to Patagonia and I’m debating whether to use them for wine tasting. Maipo Valley is apparently only 45 minutes from the city, Colchagua is more like 2 hours.
Is Chilean wine country actually a good experience (nice settings, interesting varietals, good food pairings) or is it more of a “it’s fine but not Napa or Tuscany” situation? I specifically love Carmenere which I know is Chile’s thing. Would I be better off just drinking wine at restaurants in Santiago and using those 2 days for something else?
