I travel a lot and I love to try new food, but every time I do I lose track of my gym progress. Do you guys have any healthy go-to travel snacks?
I always bring with me a banana, protein bars (KIND or CLIF), and a bag of mixed unsalted nuts.
Honestly, as a previous bodybuilder who loves to travel, I say let go of your routine and enjoy the experience, but I can understand not wanting to lose progress.
I try to prioritise protein when travelling, which can be easily found in stores (depending on where you’re visiting). The convenience stores in East Asia, for example, offer protein yoghurt, soft-boiled eggs and a range of protein shakes and snacks.
You’ll likely be doing a lot of walking, especially on tours, so I wouldn’t be too afraid of letting go for a week or two and really enjoying yourself. Life is about balance, after all!
Haha story of my husband. He’s recently started bringing his protein powder in storage containers he bought so he can have them on the go and between meals. Otherwise we’re big on going for protein-rich food while eating out (and still treating ourselves with local food and dessert!), and I always have protein bars, nuts or dried fruit with me in case ![]()
My tip is to fill up on fruit and veg first, then try to get some protein in to help keep you full, but then enjoy yourself.
Think hitting the fruit platter and eggs/omelets at the breakfast buffet, order a side salad with lunch and dinner, always!
Trying the local food is part of the fun of traveling, and if you’re like me and love to wander for miles then you shouldn’t lose too much progress. If you like to run, an early jog round town is a great way to see the sights and keep your fitness ![]()
I used to work out a lot and would worry that when I travelled, I’d lose my gym routine. But trust me! You should let go of your gym routine a bit while travelling, because it’s not the same as being at home. When you travel, you move a lot! You probably walk more than 20k steps a day, go hiking, and do plenty of other activities, which all count!
My go to snack is usually a protein bar, banana, or some mixed nuts, but to be honest, they don’t really fill me up so I usually end up eating an actual meal anyway.
