# What's the ideal length for a first trip to Japan?

We’d love to see Tokyo, Kyoto and a little beyond without feeling marched around, but we also don’t want to pad the trip out or pay for days we don’t need. The options seem to run anywhere from a week to a fortnight. For a first visit, what length hit the sweet spot - enough to enjoy it, but not so long it started to drag?
