My gf and I are going to going to Vilnius in Lithuania for 3 full days over Christmas. Any tips or recommendations outside of the main bits (e.g. castle, cathedral)? We love trains/trams, cats, rock music, vegan food, and unusual places Thanks! ---

You’ll probably discover it on your own as it’s relatively central, but the Bohemian neighbourhood of Užupis is worth a visit for something different. There’s some great little cafes, interesting architecture and overall a fun vibe. I was there in the Summer, so can’t comment on the winter. While it’s not for everyone, the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Struggles (aka ‘KGB Museum), left an impression on me. Between the Germans and Soviets the region has a history of occupation and it’s not a story for the faint-hearted at times. The other thing to consider is to do some research on ‘Amber’ before you go - “Lithuanias Gold”. There are lots of stores selling it - and while it’s not the price of gold, it was very cool to see everything they do with it and I wished I’d known a bit more before I went. ---

@TravelNotes - it was amazing! Vilnius lived up to its title of Christmas Capital 2025. The decorations, cobblestone streets, and colorful churches created a proper magical vibe. I really liked **Užupis** , the artistic, bohemian area in the heart of the **old** **town** , which is kind of its own country within the city. Then there is the **Lukiškės** **Prison** , which today hosts a really unique-looking bar and more. We also visited **Trakai** **Castle** on the outskirts of Vilnius. It’s situated on a lake, next to a quaint town. The whole area is beautiful.
