Sedona in Arizona - do you absolutely need a high clearance vehicle?

We’re doing a road trip through Arizona and stopping in Sedona for 3 days.

We just have a standard rental sedan (like a Camry). Are we going to be able to get to the main trailheads like Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock, or are the roads too rough? I see all these jeep tours and wondering if our car will survive.

Absolutely! All roads are paved with parking lots to all the main vortexes.

@john A standard sedan should generally be fine for most of the main trailheads in Sedona, including places like Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock. The main roads and parking areas are usually accessible with a normal car.

However, some of the more remote backcountry or off-road trails around Sedona do require higher clearance vehicles, which is why there are so many jeep tours in the area.

If you’re mainly planning to hike the popular trails and explore the main viewpoints, a regular rental car should work without any problems. Just avoid the rougher off-road routes and stick to the main access roads.

Many visitors choose the jeep tours not because they are necessary, but because they want the off-road experience and local guides.

Enjoy Sedona — the scenery there is incredible! :cactus:
