Planning a couple of weeks through New England in October, mainly for the autumn colours, and trying to pin the best week to travel. We know it shifts north to south, so which route and which week give the best odds of hitting peak? Any first-hand timing tips appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would go earlier rather than later if you plan to go this year- I live North of New England and the leaves are already turning!
I’d agree with @WhisperingPines — I’d definitely lean earlier rather than later, especially if fall colours are the main reason for the trip. Once you get closer to Halloween we tend to start getting a bit more rain, and a couple of heavier downpours can take a LOT of the leaves down pretty quickly. The week of October 12th would probably be my first choice, or even the week of October 5th could be a really good option, especially if you’re planning to spend time farther north. Personally wouldn’t stretch it too far into late October or November.
