Local food in Istanbul

I’ll be in Istanbul this April what local dishes or street foods should I definitely try?

This is random, but you can get a goooooood fish sandwich near the Galata Bridge. There’s tonnes of restaurants and literally one boat that is grilling fish and you can get a sandwich to eat near the water. So tasty

Hi William,

Definitely try a fish sandwich (balık ekmek) near the Bosphorus — it’s one of the classic street foods in Istanbul.

In Sultanahmet, there is also a very famous place called Tarihi Sultanahmet Kuru Fasulyecisi, known for its traditional Turkish white bean stew (kuru fasulye). It’s simple but incredibly delicious.

And if you go a bit outside the center, there are some great kebab places around KavacıkDedecan Kebap is one of the well-known spots.

Of course don’t leave without trying simit, Turkish breakfast (Ethem Efendi kahvaltı) and baklava too.
