Hotels near London Paddington for an early Heathrow Express

We have a 6:10am flight out of Heathrow and I’d rather die than take a 4am taxi from a random hotel. Thinking we stay at a hotel walkable to Paddington so we can just hop on the Heathrow Express.

Problem is every chain I look at near Paddington has reviews that sound straight out of a horror movie (bedbugs, stained carpets, smell of curry in the hallway etc). Is the area actually dodgy or is this just Tripadvisor being dramatic?

Looking for something clean, not a shoebox, under about £180. Any specific names would save my life.

Paddington isn’t ‘dodgy’, it’s just full of old Victorian town houses chopped into too many micro‑rooms, and the cheaper hotel chains often inherit those buildings.

That’s why the reviews read like a bad dream: tiny rooms, ancient plumbing, weird smells, and the occasional ‘mystery stain’.

Tripadvisor reviews are not ‘being dramatic’, but they’re not telling the whole story either; as always.

If you want zero stress at that time in the morning, the Hilton Paddington is connected to the station.

Just make sure to pack the night before, so that you don’t forget anything while you’re still rubbing your eyes. Telephone charger? Check.

As for Heathrow Express. Have you checked the timetable?

How about hotels at Heathrow?

If you want to skip the Paddington gamble entirely, staying at Heathrow is probably the most painless way to make a 6:10am departure.

Unlike Paddington, Heathrow hotels are modern, clean, and not carved out of Victorian town houses, so the horror show scenario drops to null.

Which Terminal are you flying from?

Sofitel London Heathrow - Terminal 5.

You may pay a little more but this is gold for early flights on British Airways or any Oneworld airline. If you can get this for under £180, book it immediately.

Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow - Close to Terminals 2/3.

Aerotel Heathrow - Inside Terminal 3. Rooms are small, but you’re only sleeping there; for an early start.
