We’ve decided a small-group tour is how we want to see Scotland, but there are so many and I’m anxious about picking one that spends the whole time on the coach. We really want the Highlands and Skye with time to stand and look. For those who’ve done one, which kind of itinerary gave you room to breathe rather than a checklist?
I know the anxiety you are talking about!
To be honest, you can get to Edinburgh and back and see most of Skye in a three day tour but visiting the highlands and sights like Loch Ness needs probably a 5 day tour, given the distances in between each place, if you want more exploring time than traveling.
I think the only way to ensure you have room to explore and aren’t on a whistle stop tour is to pick one with more days. There are lots of 3 day tours to Loch Ness and Skye, but I feel like that’s quite condensed.
I did Scotland in May 2026/-was travelling solo. Booked with Highland Explorer through Radar. It was excellent. Highlands, Skye, inverness, Loochness.great accommodation with 1 night just mediocre.
I had a friend recently want to do the very same thing! She did a lot of hunting, but ended up booking on TourRadar with Click Tours. She said she really liked the small group aspect, and made some great friends for future travels!
